Re: N81140 paint colors and striping

John,

Thanks again for being patient with me as we work through this. It’s a pretty big deal for me, and I’m very enthusiastic about the end product.

By the time you read this we should have already spoken by telephone, but just in case we haven’t I’m writing to send you details on the colors and striping scheme that this airplane will have. In addition, I wanted to follow-up with some of the items that are additional to the last letters you received from me, items we discussed via telephone before I went on vacation.

First, I’d like to know what you decided on the upper cowl. I have a message from Fletchair letting me know that “my cowl is ready”; I wonder if this is in response to a phone cal to them from you, or in response to my previous queries to them? If we will replace the upper cowl with one from Fletchair, I need to contact them with billing information.

Second, another item that we spoke of was in regards to the headliner. You said you were going to get a quote for me as to the cost of either replacing the headliner with the same material or trying to re-glue that headliner so it is not falling. I’d like to know if you’ve had a chance to research that.

Third, I wanted to remind you of my request to fill in the seams in the sides of the airplane, the seams where the honeycomb sheets are bonded together. These would include the forward edge of the side of the airplane just aft of the cowl; the aft edge of the side of the airplane, just where is makes the angular “break” to the tail; and the lower edge of that same side panel. In addition, I’d like you to also fill in the seams where the fresh-air NACA duct is on the forward area of that same side panel. I’m not looking for anything really fancy, I just want to clean up those areas so that they are more visually appealing.

Lastly, I just wanted to stress to you that LoPresti in Vero Beach will only be replacing the fiberglass nosebowl, and not the sheet metal cowl. However, there will be a modification to the cowl, which may effect your decision on whether to paint the cowl before or after the modification. Following are some web links so you can get a detailed view of exactly what on the airplane will be modified:

http://www.aya.org/lopresti0902.html

Note that no striping will be done on the nosebowl. Once LoPresti has completed the modification (approximately 3 days) then the airplane will be returned to you for the painting of the nosebowl and any other outstanding repairs and cleanup work.

Once you have a general idea of when you will be at the point of releasing it to LoPresti, please contact me so that I can schedule with them appropriately.

Attached are the details on the paint and striping for this airplane. I’m going to try and be as detailed as possible; if you should have any questions about the design, please feel free to contact me.

Sincerely,

Greg Amy
